ABOUT ELSHA

Elsha Bohnert makes art with found objects and poems with found words.  Machine parts, toys, rags, poems, stories, and letters, all find their way into her art.

Elsha Bohnert’s mixed media and assemblage art is in private collections worldwide and has been exhibited in Hawaii, the continental USA, and Europe.  She has been honored with many awards.

Born and raised in Indonesia, with English as her third language, Elsha has most recently published in Bamboo Ridge, Hawai`i Review, Rain Bird and Hawaii Pacific Review.  Her work is also included in Hawai’i Pacific Review’s “Best of the Decade 1997-2007.”

In 2001, she was awarded the honor of being one of 16 poets nationwide to work with Sharon Olds, past poet laureate of New York State. The last three years she has studied autobiographical writing with renowned Hollywood film director Mark Travis.

Elsha Bohnert serves as the Visual and Literary Arts Chair of the O’ahu Arts Center and is a past president of the Honolulu Branch of the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW).

“Elsha Bohnert is a fountain of inspiration. She creates nonstop in whatever medium suits her purpose, from funky found-object sculptures to paintings. Dark, solemn, thought-provoking works and witty, bright colored pieces alike emerge from her studio.”

"She is a master when it comes to putting together the most unlikely things in a humorous way."

~Victoria Gail-White, Honolulu Advertiser Art Reviewer
